Value World

Today in Barbie Art land I'm pimping my favorite place to pick up used Barbies, Value World in Ann Arbor. The owner/manager there, Jeremy (I believe his name is) has been giving me deals on bulk Barbies for awhile now. Rather reluctantly in the beginning, I might add. :p

Last time I was there, I promised him a Barbie of his very own to display or do with as his wished for all his kindness. It really does help the cause, those deals. He gave me a great one today, but I'll never tell.

I got 23 Barbies! They're all currently in the salon at the moment. Some of them were in rough condition. They usually are, but I fix 'em pretty good. Some were really awesome, too. Some I'd never seen before and pretty special. I found one with a hard plastic face and like, blinky eyes. Very cool. I think she's getting a special dress and locked in the china cabinet. heh

I ended up giving him this one and that worked out well, because he said purple was his favorite color! Yay! I thought it was a good one because it showcased my clothes making, mask making and all around awesomeness. *cough*

Anyway, he seemed to like it and that makes me happy. I made him a little business card to go along with it, should he display it. I guess we'll see!

Now, back to all those curly haired bitches with conditioner in their hair awaiting salon treatment now. *sigh*

New Doll: Another Step by Step

I figured you loved the last one, right? Right. So here's another one for ya. A never seen before doll, even. Sucky for you it's shitty camera phone pix. Once again, sorry about that. I just finished this one a couple days ago, so no name for her.

She's, once again, not my usual colors, my I've been messing around and trying new things. That's what life is all about, right? Or something. I really, really hate change, so I guess the trying new colors things is part of my therapy. Yanno, my therapist just loves this whole Barbie Art thing. So, here's to you, Dr. Therapist, I'm tried something out of my color comfort zone.

Orange. Yep, orange. One of my least favorite colors, but what the hell, right?

It's something different, it's something new and oh hey, it's almost Halloween!

Under the mask we have purple, which I do not hate. This picture is very blurry and I apologize for this.

This one is not so blurry so you get a better idea of what's actually going on.

If you  haven't guessed yet, my work station is actually my kitchen table. Barbie is sitting on my laptop and those are ferrets in that cage.

What the other picture wasn't really shpwing you is that I have painted her arms and legs. Here is a close up of her arm.

Here is a close up of her legs and all of the other surrounding crap on my table. :o)

Much time has elapsed and now that she dry, we've moved on to making her outfit.

This doll and I had a bonding moment over this picture. I am SO the girl that gets her dress stuck in her panties.

We're getting there! Some orange trim to bring it all together.

I took care of that little skirt tucking problem...buy making her skirt way shorter than I wanted to. heh

Either I felt she was missing something around her neck or I just plain wanted to choke the bitch out at this point. I can't quite remember....

Now she's all finished! Wearing the shaw I had intended as her original skirt, which is why the one she's wearing is so short. ahwell. These dolls have a mind of their own!

Blue Devil: Start to Finish

This is going to be one of those rare near step by step, start to finish progress shot post. Now, the pix aren't best quality, as they're from my cell phone. I do tend to take a lot of progress shots with my cell phone just to have them for me. I figured I'd share these. I know you've already seen the Blue Devil, AKA #3, but not like this!

Here she is as just any other doll...with a blue face. Nothing special, right? Well, you just wait...

She now has her black base make up in place. Shitty lighting, it was probably dark while I was working on  her. Sorry 'bout that.

Working on  her mask here. I don't think it's quite done yet.

On the other hand, if I'm taking side view pix of it, it very well might be complete.

Ok, I know for a fact her mask if finished here, because I moved onto attaching her wings.

Oh look, those wings are on her back! who'da thought, right?

I thought she needed some fancy stockings, right? Right.

Now we're going to move on to some better lighting...but just for a minute, then back to shitty, then back to better. Just...letting you know.

ooooh creepy, right? Cool mask, creepy wings. Skurry.

As much as I love these wings, and I do (send me morrrre), they are a total bitch to attach.

Oh I guess the lighting isn't too bad. I must have been working on her clothes during the day. Ha!

I had to craft the dress around the wings, so they'd look like they were really coming out of her back. Which was the whole reason of gluing them on first. durp. It was a challenge, but turned out great! (I think)

She's all done now! Are you glad you got to see the whole, or at least most, of the process? Are you excited?

She's certainly a favorite of mine, but I think she might go up for sale. Either alone or part of the series.

You can see you her stockings really good here. They look pretty sexy. woohoo!

Like Mother, Like Daughter

So, I had the series going, but I had a different idea. This chick is loosely related, but not in the series, I guess.

She's a fairly old Barbie. Some 80's edition. Her hair is thinning and you can just...tell the difference. heh

She has a little something special tho, a baby!

After I had finished making their make up the same, I gave them the same hair style aswell.

See? Mama has a nice...rollie bun or whatever too, just like baby! lol

Now, as usual, the next set of pictures skips right to them being dressed. Sometimes I just get so wrapped up in what I'm doing I forget those progress shots. Sometimes I remember. I discovered a bunch of progress shots on my cell phone camera. heh

  Anyway, on with the pix!

Mama first! Isn't she lovely? The dress is a black velvet material, with a snakeskin print belt.

You can see her tail good, plus her headband matches her belt. Her gloves also lined with the same 'snakeskin'.

Fancy back with those other wings I was talking about.

I forked her feet/toes for 2 reasons. 1) they were 2 completely different feet. I'm not kidding. Like, from 2 different molds different. Very strange. 2) She's a devil, duh, it seemed fitting.

Notice her heart shaped lock around her neck.

The baby! She's wearing the key to Mama's lock. :o) (her feet are also forked. Something chewed her feet up awful.)

 The side view, of course.

The view from the back is a little more impressive. She has little wings. which I cut off a bat ring. Perfect size.

See how cute she is? *squee* Love my creepy babies! <3

And now some pix of Mama and Baby together. They're just way cuter together, the whole point of making them match.

I  just finished them a few days ago. I love them! Like I said before, I pretty much love them all. haha These may or may not go up for sale. heh I already have my Family Grimm, so really, I shouldn't hold on to more families. lol

Halfsies

I'm sad to announce there will be no playdate with Apey today. :o( Her work schedule is balls this week. She might make her way out Friday, we shall see. In the meantime, my picture quality is going to suck. I figured out how to get pix off my cell phone. Lucky you, right? heh

One of my newest creations, within the last few days, is a half and half kind of doll. Half mask, half normal. I realized I haven't made one yet and now I'm kind of addicted. It was fun! I think she turned out great!

It's also useful to get rid of all those single shoes I have laying around. ha!

I'm especially fond of the bat in her hair. I think it adds a nice touch.

 The whole side view.

Back view. She almost just looks normal from the back.

The 'normal' side. As normal as I get, I guess.

A bit of a close up.

Here are some more close ups without commentary for your viewing pleasure.

So there you have it, my first half and half doll. What'cha think? More, y/n? I think more. I loved making her. I pretty much love making them all, though. Obviously, or I wouldn't do it. heh
